Armory on the Assabet Named to 2025 Massachusetts Most Endangered Historic Resource List
This year, Preservation Massachusetts selected 10 historic properties from across the Commonwealth for the Most Endangered list. Since its inception in 1993, this program has been a vital tool for identifying endangered historic resources, raising awareness, and fostering collaborative efforts to protect these irreplaceable landmarks. The program highlights the architectural and cultural significance of these sites while emphasizing their potential to serve as community assets through thoughtful preservation and rehabilitation.
“Inclusion on the Most Endangered list is more than just an honor—it’s a call to action,” said Jessica Rudden-Dube, Executive Director of Preservation Massachusetts. “Each of this year’s listed properties holds tremendous potential to serve its community through creative partnerships and preservation efforts. We look forward to working collaboratively to achieve success stories with this year’s selections.”
The Armory on the Assabet’s inclusion on this prestigious list comes at a pivotal moment for its preservation. This recognition validates the architectural and historical significance of the Armory, amplifying the Hudson community’s voice and signaling that its preservation is a statewide priority.
The Hudson Cultural Alliance is currently working to match a $200,000 grant awarded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, which must be met by April 2026. Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors and supporters, over $95,000 has already been raised, leaving $105,000 still needed to unlock the full potential of this transformative grant.
“This recognition as one of Massachusetts’ Most Endangered Historic Resources is both an honor and a rallying cry,” said Thomas Desmond, President and Founder of the Armory on the Assabet. “The Armory represents Hudson’s past and its promise for the future—a space that brings people together and fosters community spirit. Our progress so far reflects the passion and generosity of our supporters, and we remain committed to meeting our fundraising goals and restoring the Armory for generations to come. Now more than ever, our progress depends on the collective effort of our community.”
The nomination to the Most Endangered Historic Resource List is a powerful step forward in the effort to preserve the Armory on the Assabet. However, the work is far from over. The Hudson Cultural Alliance invites community members, history enthusiasts, and preservation advocates to join the ongoing efforts to protect this iconic piece of Hudson’s history.
